Will your phone work as a webcam with your computer?

Write down your phone model, operating system version, computer and calling or recording app. Check the current instructions from the relevant makers for that exact combination, including the connection method, required software and account settings. A mount cannot establish software compatibility.

Before shopping, confirm that the calling app can select the phone camera using a supported setup. Use a secure, suitable position that follows the equipment instructions for this check; do not balance the phone on the screen. Check the picture and the selected microphone separately.

Record what you confirmed and where you found the instructions. If a required version, connection or app is unsupported or unclear, resolve that first or keep your existing webcam. This guide does not establish support for any named phone or software feature.

Will the mount fit your monitor, phone and case?

Check both the monitor maker's and mount maker's instructions before treating the top edge as an attachment point. Record any stated limits or exclusions for the mounting method. A screen that looks similar to one in a listing is not a verified match.

Measure the monitor's top-edge depth in millimetres and describe the rear shape: flat, tapered, curved or stepped. Note the visible screen area, bezel, vents, camera, sensors and any light bar. Compare the proposed contact points and adjustment range with those details, rather than checking thickness alone.

Record the phone dimensions and weight with the actual case or accessory you intend to use. Check the mount's stated compatibility and load conditions, plus any requirements for the monitor's stand or arm. A laptop lid needs its own maker's checks; do not assume a desktop-monitor fit applies. If support is unconfirmed, leave the mount off the screen and consider a separately supported position instead.

Where should the phone camera sit for your calls?

Keep the screen in a position that suits your normal work, then consider the camera view from your usual seated position. If you use a monitor riser or arm, include it in the layout before measuring the proposed camera position. Record the lens position as well as the phone outline: these are different reference points.

After the mounting and software checks pass, use the app's private camera preview to assess framing, background and where you look while speaking. Adjust within the equipment's permitted range. Keep the screen and controls you need visible, and check that the mount does not obstruct them.

There is no fixed camera height specified by this checklist. Record the position that works for your setup instead of treating your eye-height measurement or a product photograph as a universal answer. Our monitor-riser sizing guide covers the separate base, keyboard and desk-space measurements.

How will the connection and charging leads reach the phone?

Follow the supported setup's instructions to determine whether you need a cable for the camera connection, charging, or both. Check the phone and accessory makers' guidance before assuming a charging arrangement can be used during a call. Record the ports and leads required for the setup you have confirmed.

Trace the route from the phone to each connection point and measure the length it needs. Account for the monitor's permitted tilt, swivel and height changes, following its cable-routing instructions. Check that the proposed route will not pull on the phone, cross the picture or interfere with normal desk use.

Decide where the phone will go between calls. If it returns to a charging stand or shared charging area, include that move in your plan. Our phone-stand and desk-charging-station guides cover those separate fit and charging checks; neither establishes webcam support.

What should you record before buying a phone webcam mount?

Keep one note with the exact device and software versions, support-page or manual references, confirmed connection method, monitor-edge measurements, phone-and-case details, mounting limits, camera position and cable route. Label each value as measured or manufacturer-stated; mark missing information as unknown.

Compare a candidate mount with that note. If a required dimension, attachment method or compatibility statement is missing, ask the maker rather than filling the gap from a photograph or another model's listing. Recheck the plan after changing the phone, case, monitor, riser or software.

This is an original planning method, not a product ranking, installation manual or hands-on test. No specific mount is recommended, and an unresolved fit or support question remains unresolved until you can check it.
